Lex Fridman
Long-form interview show with millions of listeners
Rejected. It isn’t going to the Arctic.
“A flawed study, Musk's approval and a black suit got him three hours with Trump in 2024.”
Why Noah said no
Lex Fridman got big after Elon Musk praised his unreviewed 2019 Tesla Autopilot study, then hosted three-hour chats with Musk, Trump and Kushner. The Joe Rogan Experience already covers long, uncritical podcast interviews with the powerful, and the cluster is full with Call Her Daddy and Serial.

What it is
Lex Fridman hosts a podcast where he interviews scientists, technologists, politicians and other public figures, often for three hours or more per episode. The show started in 2018 and grew to millions of subscribers by the early 2020s, becoming a platform where lengthy, unedited conversations reached large audiences.
Why it’s internet culture
It shows how podcasts replaced traditional media as the place where people went to hear long conversations with interesting guests, and how a single host could build a huge audience by talking to whoever would sit down with him, without gatekeeping or editing.
Fridman's three-hour, softly paced interviews with tech founders and politicians show how podcast audiences came to prefer long, friendly conversations over edited journalism. His rise also shows how one Elon Musk endorsement could make a career online.
