$Trump
Meme coin that gave access to the president for cash
In the Ark and going to the Arctic.
“Its top 220 holders won dinner with the president. The menu included a 'Trump organic field green salad'.”
Why Noah kept it
$TRUMP launched three days before Trump's 2025 inauguration, hit a $27 billion market cap within a day, and its top 220 holders were offered dinner with him. The Meme coin entry covers Fartcoin and the retail frenzy. This is the first entry in the Ark where a meme coin was used to buy time with a president.

What it is
$TRUMP is a cryptocurrency launched on the Solana blockchain in January 2025, three days before Trump's second inauguration. Trump-owned companies held 800 million of the one billion coins created, while 200 million were sold publicly. Within a day it reached a $27 billion market cap, and by April 2025 the largest coin holders were offered dinners with the president and White House tours.
Why it’s internet culture
It shows how directly wealth and political access merged online during the second Trump administration. People paid millions into a meme coin partly as an investment and partly to gain proximity to power, which became so explicit that the project had to disclaim it was political, even as the president promoted it himself.
People bought a meme coin launched by an incoming US president partly as a bet and partly to get near him, and in 2025 the top holders were literally offered dinner with him. It shows memecoin trading and online politics turning into the same activity.

What someone in two hundred years would need to know to understand it.
Originated 2025 · Solana blockchain, announced on Truth Social and X · Also known as $Trump; Trump meme coin; Official Trump; TRUMP coin
- What it is
- $TRUMP is a cryptocurrency token, a digital ticket recorded on a shared public ledger called a blockchain, which people could buy and sell online. It's a 'meme coin': a token with no business or product behind it, whose price moves only on attention and jokes. This one was launched by Donald Trump three days before he became US president for the second time. Its logo is the picture of him raising his fist after he was shot at a rally in July 2024.
- Where it came from
- It went on sale on 17 January 2025 on the Solana blockchain with no warning, so many people first assumed it was a scam or that Trump's accounts had been hacked. Hours later he posted about it on Truth Social and X. One billion tokens were created. 200 million were sold to the public and 800 million were kept by two companies linked to him. Within a day the combined value of all the tokens was put at over $27 billion. Two days later Melania Trump launched her own coin, $MELANIA, and $TRUMP's price dropped.
- Why it mattered
- Before this, meme coins were a running joke among online traders: tokens named after dogs, frogs and farts. When a president's own token reached tens of billions of dollars in paper value, the joke became a political story. Ethics experts and journalists said it let anyone, including foreign buyers, put money towards the president and buy time with him. A Financial Times analysis found his side made at least $350 million from token sales and fees. Supporters treated it as one more piece of merchandise. Both readings were true for different buyers at once.
- What noah thinks it shows about us
- By 2025, gambling on a token, supporting a politician and joking about both had turned into the same purchase. People spent millions on a coin whose own terms said it wasn't an investment, and the reward for the biggest buyers was dinner with the president.
