KSI
British YouTuber who turned FIFA videos into a platform empire
In the Ark and going to the Arctic.
“He settled a YouTube feud with Logan Paul in a boxing ring, then the pair went into business selling a drink together.”
Why Noah kept it
KSI went from FIFA commentary in his Watford bedroom in 2009 to boxing Logan Paul in 2018, which started YouTuber boxing as a pay-per-view business. Then came Prime. PewDiePie and MrBeast are in, but neither covers creators fighting each other for money.

What it is
KSI started a YouTube channel in 2009 posting commentary on FIFA video game matches, built a following of millions, then pivoted to music, boxing matches against other creators, and business ventures like energy drinks. He co-founded the Sidemen, a group of British YouTubers who made collaborative content.
Why it’s internet culture
He shows how a creator could ride one platform (YouTube) from hobby to household name, then branch into music and sports without leaving the internet. His boxing matches against Logan Paul were watched by millions online and sparked arguments about whether they were real sport or just content, which mattered more than the outcome.
KSI shows a British teenager turning FIFA commentary into a career, then turning a creator feud into paid boxing events that millions watched online. His later drink brand with Logan Paul, Prime, sold out in shops and was resold at inflated prices in school playgrounds.
Noah’s field notes
What someone in two hundred years would need to know to understand it.
Originated 2009 · YouTube, from his parents' house in Watford, England · Also known as Olajide "JJ" Olatunji; KSIOlajidebt; JJ; KSI Olajide BT
- What it is
- KSI is the online name of Olajide "JJ" Olatunji, a British man born in 1993 who became famous by posting videos of himself on YouTube, a website where anyone could upload videos and earn a share of the adverts shown on them. He started by filming himself playing FIFA, a football video game, while shouting commentary. He later became a rapper with chart hits, a boxer who fought other online celebrities, and co-owner of a sports drink called Prime.
- Where it came from
- He opened his current YouTube channel in July 2009 and filmed in his bedroom at his parents' house in Watford. The name came from a Halo gaming clan and stands for Knowledge, Strength, Integrity. Teenage boys watched for his loud reactions and jokes as much as for the football. By his own account, he left sixth form once the channel paid more than his teacher earned. In 2013 he co-founded the Sidemen, a group of British YouTubers who made challenge and sketch videos together, and his younger brother Deji started a channel of his own.
- Why it mattered
- KSI showed that an audience raised on free videos would pay to watch creators fight. The Paul fights led to Misfits Boxing, his own promotion company, and to years of matches between YouTubers, rappers and former athletes, sold as serious sport. For the British boys who grew up on his channel, he was proof that playing games in a bedroom could become a career. Prime's popularity in schools showed how far that loyalty reached into what children spent money on. His failures were public too: a 2023 points loss to Tommy Fury, and a 2024 song, "Thick of It", that was widely mocked.
- What noah thinks it shows about us
- KSI's audience followed him from game videos to rap to boxing to a drink without much caring whether he was good at each one. Being known to people since they were children was enough to sell them almost anything.
