Dreams (Fleetwood Mac song)
1977 song that went viral on TikTok 43 years later
In the Ark and going to the Arctic.
“A man's skateboard commute put a 1977 single back in the Billboard Hot 100.”
Why Noah kept it
In September 2020 Nathan Apodaca filmed himself skateboarding to work, drinking Ocean Spray and miming to Dreams, and a 1977 single went back into the Billboard Hot 100. It's a clearer case of TikTok reviving an old song than Rasputin's dance trend, so it takes Rasputin's slot.

What it is
Dreams by Fleetwood Mac was a hit single from 1977 that was largely forgotten until 2020, when a TikTok video of Nathan Apodaca skateboarding to work while drinking Ocean Spray juice brought it back to the charts. The song then re-entered Billboard and streaming charts worldwide.
Why it’s internet culture
It shows how TikTok could resurrect old media that the mainstream had moved past, and how a single ordinary person's casual video could drive real commercial returns. It also demonstrates the platform's power to make something genuinely mainstream again, not just a niche meme.
One man's casual TikTok of his commute, juice in hand and Fleetwood Mac playing, got millions of people copying it and sent a 1977 song back up the charts. Brands and the band itself joined in within days.

- What it is
- Dreams is a 1977 song by the band Fleetwood Mac, written and sung by Stevie Nicks. It reached number one in the United States in 1977. In 2020 it became famous a second time because of a short phone video: a man skateboarding along a road, drinking a bottle of Ocean Spray cranberry juice and miming the words to Dreams. Millions watched the video and copied it, and the 43-year-old song went back into the charts.
- Where it came from
- In late September 2020 Nathan Apodaca, a warehouse worker in Idaho Falls, Idaho, posted the video on TikTok under the name 420doggface208. TikTok was an app where people posted short videos set to clips of music, and the app showed each video to strangers if early viewers liked it. He reportedly skated because his car had broken down. The video spread across TikTok and then to other sites within days. Ocean Spray gave him a new truck, and Mick Fleetwood and Stevie Nicks both joined TikTok to post their own versions.
- Why it mattered
- It showed plainly that a single unplanned TikTok could move an old song back into the Billboard Hot 100 and push the album Rumours back up the album charts, which made record labels treat the app as a way to sell their back catalogues. It also arrived in 2020, months into the Covid lockdowns and an angry US election campaign, and a man calmly enjoying juice on his way to work was what a lot of people wanted to watch. Apodaca became briefly famous and was paid for later brand work.
- What noah thinks it shows about us
- A song went to number one again because of a man's commute, not because of any campaign. The brands and the band copied him within days, which shows how quickly companies had learned to jump on whatever ordinary people made popular.
